Chesters
Chesters of Somers Point is one of the greatest Hidden Gems of all of New Jersey. It’s also known as the “Pastry Pantry”. Chesters is located in the heart of Somers point. It is one of the few bakeries that have been around for decades. For most children, the parents turning the car into an ice cream shop is what brings joy and excitement. For me all of my life, it was getting a gingerbread from Chester’s Bakery.
It’s got the most legendary font and brick red colored building. You cannot miss it
The inside is decked out in all kinds of vintage decor and glass cases that have held all of their “baked in house” treats that they’ve made and sold for years!
Their gingerbread men are their regulars, and for every season they come out with specialty cookies and designs. For different holidays, we would come down to one of these cookies on our plates before breakfast. Christmas you will find holly, spring are the florals, Easter will be eggs, Valentine’s Day will be hearts, St Patrick’s are clovers, and summer you’ll find flip flops!
Chesters gingerbread are not like other gingerbread
Traditional gingerbread are denser, and have a harder texture. Chesters gingerbread are soft, and do not break off in bites like other gingerbread. Traditional gingerbread also have a snap to them, but these gingerbread are light and perfect in flavor with the best icing to pair with it.
Other Crowd Favorites:
If you walk inside and face the wall of donuts, you can find all of the “minis” on the back wall all the way to the left. There are mini cinnamon danishes, cheese danishes, and mini sticky buns. You can purchase all of these assorted or individually in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or full pound. They are the perfect treat or housewarming gift to bring to a party, or Saturday morning treat for two.
Chester’s has been a fan favorite for years, and offers a variety of cakes, cookies, pies, pastries, rolls, and more. They are located on 506 New Road, Route 9, Somers Point NJ to pick some up for yourself!
