My Art Response

Working through this prompt invited me to slow down and sit with the feeling of gratitude for someone who has been a steady presence in my life. As I began thinking about who came to mind, I found myself reflecting not only on who they are, but on the role they have played throughout different stages of my life. The process naturally led me to imagine an image that could represent the relationship itself and the ways it has shaped parts of my path.

While painting, I noticed how the act of creating gave me space to think about this person’s qualities, their steadiness, humor, and kindness, and how those traits have shown up over time. I also found myself reflecting on how our relationship has evolved as we have both grown, moved through different seasons of life, and built families of our own. Using watercolor on watercolor paper allowed the image to unfold slowly, which mirrored the way my thoughts and appreciation for this relationship surfaced during the process. The experience felt less about creating a perfect image and more about allowing time to acknowledge the impact this person continues to have in my life.
