A Calm Place

Art Prompt: Think of a place where you feel safe, calm, or a sense of relief. It could be somewhere real, somewhere from your past, or somewhere you imagine. Create an image that reflects what that place feels like to you. As you create, notice what helps your body soften there, what feels different about your thoughts, and what makes this space feel easier to be in.

Materials: Watercolor, watercolor paper, watercolor paint brushes

My Art Response

When I sat with this prompt, I noticed how quickly my mind started searching for a “perfect” place. But as I slowed down, a quieter, more familiar feeling came up instead, something simple and steady.

Creating the image gave me space to focus less on where the place was and more on how it felt to be there. It reminded me that ease doesn’t always have to be something far away or imagined, sometimes it exists in small, overlooked moments that feel a little lighter.

Journal Prompts

  1. What makes this place feel safe or relieving to you? What specific elements stand out?

  2. Is this a place you currently have access to, or does it feel distant? How does that impact you?

  3. How does your body respond when you imagine or sit with this place?

  4. What thoughts feel quieter or less present when you are in this space?

  5. What parts of this feeling could you bring into your everyday life, even in small ways?
